U.S. â€" Hundreds of American Airlines’ flights cancelled due to bad weather American Airlines canceled hundreds of flights during the weekend, citing bad weather and staffing shortages, the company announced in a statement.
American Airlines CEO David Seymour said in a memo to staff on Saturday that the difficulties began on Thursday with strong wind storms that blocked capacity at the company’s Dallas hub and delayed staff positioning for upcoming flights.
Most travellers affected by the cancellations were able to rebook for the same day, said the airline, which operates 6,700 daily flights worldwide to 350 destinations in 50 countries.
American isn’t the only airline to encounter troubles this month, causing frustration for travelers. Southwest reported mass cancellations and delays from Oct. 9-10, with more than 2,000 flights canceled over the weekend.
