Seven Burndeners brave the mud to take on Mast-have event
SEVEN Burndeners braved the tough Winter Hill Mast 10k in aid of Bolton Mountain Rescue, returning admirable times.
Going for more than half a century, the eventâs perilous route requires the runners to navigate sections of trail, track, woodland, moor and bog with more than 400 metres of ascent thrown in.
Recent graduate of the Burnden Beginnersâ, Chelsea Entwistle, was first female back down in 1hr 19mins 3secs, braving a smile at the end of the brutal course as she cradled a well-deserved hot drink.
Club coach Andy Dunleavy was first male home in an impressive sub-60 â" 58:09. Tim Taylor followed Dunleavy in 1:06:48 and David Smith was next for the club in 1:09:34.
Other results: Philip Glassbrook (1:22:49), Rachel Prior (1:34:35), Robert Bell (1:34:35).
Elsewhere, Ged Turner headed to Hutton Roof to fly the flag for Burnden in the delayed 35th running of the traditional fell race.
Not far from Kirby Lonsdale, the picturesque race route treats runners to the beautiful views of the hills of Hutton Roof Crags and Farleton Knott as they run alongside the scree.
Packing in seven miles and 400 metres of ascent, Turner crossed the line in an impressive 1:18:00 and was 122nd out of 203 competitors.
A small but intrepid group of six Burnden Road Runners members braved the mud at Heaton Park as the cross-country season powered forward with the first race of the South East Lancashire League.
The challenging course - and a new route - did not break the smiles or strength of the six as Gwen Kinloch brought home another V60 category win for the ladies, finishing in 35:48.
Holly Craggs was not far behind Kinloch as she finished in 38:43.
Captain, Paul Duke, was first home for the men with 39:47, with Steve Nolan in 44:48, Keith Thomas in 45:40 and Tony Wall in 48:14.
Mark Jackson continued his quest to conquer the local parkruns by achieving a sub-19 minute time at Peel in a heart-pumping 18:58.
At Heaton Park, Aidy Ashburn achieved a sub-23 with 22:37 as did Adam Austin at Sherwood Pines. Austin crossed in 22:53 in a spot of parkrunning while on holiday at Centre Parcs.
Burnden Beginner graduate Ian Mann also did not let a weekend away stop parkrun by representing Burnden at York and finishing in 30:56.
