Farnworth lad 6 raises money for school with litter mission
A SIX-year-old has made it his mission to clean up his local area during the summer holidays.
And little campaigner Thomas Platt is also raising money for his school in the process.
Thomas, who will start Year Two in August, said: âDuring the six-week school holidays I would like to raise money for my school by litter picking in my local area.
âMy mummy, daddy and little sister will also be helping me.
âAll money will be donated to St James CE Primary School. I am going to try and fill lots of bin bags.â
The GoFundMe campaign has already raised £180 out of the £200 target - but Thomas is not stopping there.
All the money raised will go towards his school.
Cllr Paul Sanders, ward councillor for Farnworth, added: âWhat an inspiration Thomas is. He is a credit to his community and school, St James CE Primary School in Farnworth."
Mum Kate Platt said: âIâm so proud of my little man. We have been litter picking this morning so he can raise money for his school.
âThomas noticed a lady putting rubbish in the bin and stopped her to say thank you, and he then had a lovely chat with this lady about the importance of recycling and looking after the planet. The lady was lovely and listened to everything he was saying.
âThomas was telling me how plastic is really bad for the planet and we need to protect the planet and our animals by picking up litter and plastic.
"He also said âit only took us 20 minutes to fill a bag of rubbish and if everyone did it the world would be happy and cleanâ.â
In school, Thomas and his St James classmates have been learning about the impact plastic has on the world.
