  • Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley addressed the media after the Power’s heart-stopping win over Adelaide...

Everything pointed to this one descending into the most lopsided Showdown in the South Australian derby’s 50-match history.

Instead, the two arch rivals produced an insta-classic. After four quarters of pounding pressure, including a couple of Crows casualties, it was the Power who narrowly won the survival of the fittest by four points.

Aliir won the Showdown Medal, and it’s easy to understand why...

That is up there with the Saints’ win over Brisbane as one of their best performances of the year.

And crucially they move back to within two points of the top eight, while the Swans’ top-four hopes have now taken a massive hit as they are now six points behind Melbourne who still play on Monday.

The Saints’ pressure was super all night, and they finished up dominating the tackle count 65-43.

They also ended up winning the disposals 399-355, marks 100-76, inside 50s 58-48, contested possessions 137-128 and scoring shots 23-14.

The Power avoid a massive humiliation and hang on for a thrilling four-point win to temporarily move to third spot on the ladder and give their double-chance hopes a big boost.

A really brave effort from the Crows, considering the tumultuous week they’ve had, and the fact that 12 spots separated them from the Power on the ladder heading into this contest.

But unfortunately for them, they just couldn’t finish off the job, and perhaps the losses of Smith and Hamill to head injuries proved too hard to cover in the end.

The Power finished strongly after falling 19 points down, and ended up winning the disposals 387-354, clearances 36-33, tackles 78-64, marks 89-52, inside 50s 48-47, contested possessions 163-155, hitouts 37-30 and scoring shots 20-16.

Chayce Jones exiting Adelaide’s backline kicks it straight to Aliir on the wing with 35 seconds remaining!

Sloane brings Duursma to ground and there’ll be a ball up 60m out from Adelaide’s goal with 76 seconds to go and the Power up by four points.

Mackay’s hurried snap shot on goal sneaks in for a behind and the Crows are back down by four points with 1:39 to go, 7.9.51 to 7.13.55.

Wines dodges one and his floating snap shot from 40m out goes the wrong side of the goal post.

The Power lead by just five points with 2:14 to go, 7.13.55 to 7.8.50.
