Teen fights off crocodile after it attacked her on holiday in Mexico

A teenager survived a fearsome attack by a huge crocodile as she went for a midnight swim in Mexico.

Kiana Hummel had decided to go for a dip in the ocean close to the Marriot resort in Puerto Vallerta.

Suddenly, as the 18-year-old paddled beneath the inky black sky, the 12-foot long reptile attacked her.

A teeth filled mouth closed around Kiana's leg and pulled her down into the water as she screamed for help.

Frantically she launched blows at the croc, raining down punches on it until it let her go, People reported.

However, as Kiana made a desperate rush for freedom the minibus-sized marine beast struck again, grabbing her left ankle and pulling her back once more.

Thankfully a group of have-a-go-heroes had spotted the commotion and rushed to the Californian's woman's aid, forcing the croc off her.

Recalling the moments after she was saved, Kiana said: "I just remember saying, 'please don't leave me.'

"I didn't think I was getting out that second time. That was just really bad."

Among the witnesses was Sarah Laney, a woman also on vacation, who heard Kiana's cries and ran to help the frightened teen.

"It was most definitely one of the craziest, scariest things I've ever experienced," Laney told ABC7.

"Honestly, I will never forget it when the crocodile's head came above water. I just went into shock."

Kiana has been left with extensive muscle and tissue damage down to the bone, rendering her unable to walk.

It took 45 minutes for an ambulance to take Kiana to the hospital, where she was allegedly forced to pay thousands before she was given any treatment.

A GoFundMe has been created to help her with expenses.

The hotel has now improved its safety measures to prevent further guests from coming to harm.

Marriott spokesperson Kerstin Sachl said: "The safety and security of our guests and associates are our top priority, and we can confirm that appropriate signage, as well as night patrolling and red flags, were and are properly in place.

"We review our plans and procedures often and work closely with the appropriate authorities on an ongoing basis.

"Our staff is trained in how to respond to safety matters appropriately. We encourage all guests to be vigilant for their safety."
